“Just to say again how much we enjoyed staying at Wheatland Farm and in Balebarn Lodge. From the scones on arrival to the well-equipped kitchen to the comfortable beds it was perfect and we all felt relaxed and refreshed when we got home. I won’t forget the view from the sitting room in a hurry!” Rosalind G.

“We have given out your details to the family and friends – we will definitely be back. Thanks again”

“I wanted to say how much we enjoyed our stay at Wheatland Farm. The cottage was fabulous – so cosy and warm and what a setting. Thanks Ian for giving us the tour of the SSSI and the apple pressing experience – we saved a little bit of our juice for Carmen who pronounced it “Delicious” – and thanks to Maggie for the lovely scones. I am a bit of a connoisseur of scones as they are one of my quick stand-bys if friends call by unexpectedly, and I can safely say that yours were as delicious as the apple juice.
Rest assured that we will be back!”

“Hi Ian,
My sincere apologies that this is a little late, but we wanted to thank you once again for another superb week in Devon! The children really loved the sparklers around the bonfire on Halloween night & it made it a very different & more memorable evening for them – much nicer than a traditional trick or treat trail. We had a lovely time, as always and thank you again for having us to stay.
With our very best wishes”

    1. Glad you enjoyed your stay, and we hope we’ll see you again sometime when there’s another competition at Stafford Moor… or come back and tackle our really big gold fish!

  1. How do you tackle a goldfish? After a week in Otter Cottage I can say that I’m glad Sykes Cottages put me on to you. I think I’ve stumbled upon a real getaway from the hustle and bustle. To be in a country retreat – a field with apparently no cultivation and 2 ponds with bullrushes and some canoes lazily placed nearby – with warm, understanding hosts who pre-empt the guests’ needs like with scones upon arrival, maps and advice on getting around, wonderful firewood and any extras needed for the house – is a rare and blissful experience. It’s not like a farm where guests just arrive in a haphazard way but well managed eco-tourism and there’s room for old ladies and dogs! (well, a 48 year old lady in this case). Thanks!

  2. Maggie and Ian we had a lovely time in the cottage.we enjoyed the walks early morning around the lake.the cottage was very cosy.the welcome you both gave us was second to none. We have many photos to remind us of the great time we have had.we will be back next year.

    1. The stars are spectacular in a dark sky aren’t they. Really pleased to hear you had such a good time here. Hope to see you again next year!
