Wheatland Farm Nature Reserve and Lodges is pretty much in the middle of rural Devon, between Dartmoor and Exmoor). We are just outside the Saxon village of Winkleigh, credited as being among the best places in England to bring up children!
Most people come by car – but you don’t have to! Read more about car free Devon holidays here.
Nearest train station is Eggesford (4 miles). Nearest bus stop is Winkleigh Turn (2 miles – on the 5B stagecoach route from Exeter to Barnstaple).
Wheatland Farm Eco Lodges are on Google Maps, and that’s the easiest way to find us. Most guests use SatNav these days, but if you put in the postcode (EX19 8DJ) just bear in mind that the centre of the postcode is about 50m west of our driveway, so don’t be confused if your system tells you you’ve arrived but it doesn’t look right.
If you need them we can send you detailed driving directions from the M5 at Tiverton (and via Eggesford), and from the A30 East and West (via Whiddon Down and North Tawton).
Finding Wheatland Farm Eco Lodges: the last few miles…
To find us take the A3124 north from Winkleigh and after passing the recreation ground on your right you will come to a sharp left hand corner. You need to turn off, right, at the corner. Take care on the bend!
Follow the road round to the right (signed to Chulmleigh). After about half a mile there’s Fiona’s farm shop on your left. After that you’ll see a farm with a medium-sized wind turbine on your left, and our small wind turbine should soon come into view on the right (though it is cunningly hidden behind a big tree until you’re quite close). After about half a mile you’ll come across a layby on the right and our driveway. Drive down the track (not through the wooden gate to the house on the road). Drive past our neighbour’s bungalow and a small car park. To collect keys for Beech Lodge, Honeysuckle Lodge, Nuthatch lodge, Balebarn Lodge or Otter Cottage, please take the right hand fork in the driveway and come down to the old farmyard. Come to the back door in the conservatory on the side of the house. Please feel free to ring us on 0183783499 or on 07780708747 to let us know you’re here. We can easily come out and meet you in the car park.
From the A377
This is the ‘back lane’ route, so be ready to use passing places and to back up if necessary. To find Wheatland Farm Eco Lodges from the A377 we strongly recommend you turn off at Eggesford station (go across the tracks) rather than at the crossroads for Chulmleigh. After crossing the railway tracks at Eggesford station take the first right up a hill and through plantation forestry. At the top of the hill, follow the road sharp left round a bend and continue until you reach houses. Turn right here and go through the village of Wembworthy. Just as you leave the houses turn right again, down a hill and up the other side on a narrow lane. The road forks at a thatched farmhouse called Lane End. Take the left. When you come to a T junction (Tinkers Post) turn left again. Continue until you see a layby on your left with the sign for Wheatland Farm in the hedge. Drive down the track (not through the wooden gate to the house on the road ). Drive past our neighbour’s bungalow and a car park for the lodges. To collect keys for Beech Lodge, Honeysuckle Lodge, Nuthatch lodge, Balebarn Lodge or Otter Cottage, please take the right hand fork in the driveway and come down to the old farmyard. Come to the back door in the conservatory on the side of the house. Please feel free to ring us on 0183783499 or on 07780708747 to let us know you’re here – we can easily come out to meet you.
