Wheatland Farm Grounds
Across from the lodge and near the swings and slide there is a wet corner of the meadow which supports a seasonal pond and reed bed. This has a pedestrian gate to minimise safety risks for young children.
A path runs along the back of the lodges, leading from the car park, past the lodges and to the driveway and old farm yard. This will be the firmest route for those with mobility restrictions. The path should be fine for mobility scooters, even when the rest of the ground is wet.
Near the farmyard is a small fishing pond, accessed through a gate 123cm wide with a catch at 71cm. Guests are welcome to explore the farm and there is a bench by the fishing pond and by the larger wildlife pond.
The most accessible section of our farm walk is along the lodge path, down to the fishing pond (suitable for buggies and wheelchairs). For those who can manage some uneven ground, continue across the larger field containing our wildlife pond (on a mown path). When the weather has been dry, this will also be suitable for mobility scooters and it will be possible to circle the wildlife pond. However, wet weather will make this section inaccessible.
Popehouse Moor SSSI is to the south of the pond but is untamed, with narrow uneven and often muddy paths. We offer free guided walks, and can tailor these to suit many physical abilities. Popehouse Moor is not wheelchair friendly, but if you’re keen to get there let us know and we’ll see if we can get you there somehow, depending on your ability. There is one backpack adults can borrow to carry very small children. If you can’t manage Popehouse Moor we’d be happy to take you pond dipping or accompany you on another part of the farm walk. Please note that many parts of the farm, though less challenging than Popehouse Moor, are still uneven ground.
Assistance dogs welcome – plenty of room to exercise them.
