Cosy Otter Cottage, by the farmyard pond
This delightful Devon self catering cottage offers peace and quiet on our award-winning farm. It sleeps 4 in double and twin rooms.
Otter Cottage at Wheatland Farm is open plan downstairs, with easy access to both the old farmyard (with the ‘turbine room‘ indoor garden, bikes to borrow, and parking by the cottage door) and to the south-facing garden (via stable doors that give you a view over the pond). There’s plenty of style, with upcycled features and hand made fittings crafted from recycled and reclaimed wood. There’s even a small library under the stairs (swap a book, or take one home and leave £1 so we can replace it).
Cottage with woodburner
This Devon cottage with woodburner makes a lovely cosy retreat all year round. We supply a start up basket of wood, then charge you at less than cost for refills (£2 per basket). But if you don’t want the hassle of lighting a real fire don’t worry, there are radiators too.
Otter Cottage – with a well equipped modern kitchen
The kitchen at Otter Cottage boasts an induction hob (and standard oven), a dishwasher, microwave, fridge freezer, and the usual bits and pieces like kettle and toaster that you’ll need for your self catering holiday. Need that caffeine fix? There’s a cafetiere coffe maker, but also a hob-top expresso maker. By the way, if you can’t use induction hobs for medical reasons, do talk to us about fitting a temporary hob for you.
Local Devon food
When it comes to food, Devon treats stand out – and there are plenty of good pubs nearby offering gorgeous meals out. There are 2 pubs offering meals within 2 miles. Don’t worry about doing the shopping either – you can have your groceries delivered, whether from the farm shop up the road, a local online grocer (localfarmbox.co.uk), or a supermarket. And if you fancy a few bottles to help you unwind on holiday, ring Bruce, our friendly wine merchant from Grape and Grain in Crediton (01363 777719). He’ll advise and drop off for you on his way home through Winkleigh.
Cottage with 2 Bedrooms
Of course, a good night’s sleep is crucial to a great holiday. The bedrooms are upstairs, with a double room looking out over the ponds (one of the best views on Wheatland Farm). There’s also a twin room that can be made up as a superking (access one side only in that orientation).
If you need something without stairs please consider one of our one-level lodges. Honeysuckle Lodge (sleeps up to 4) would be good for a couple, or Beech Lodge for a small group (sleeps 6). For an even bigger group consider our gorgeous Balebarn Lodge, which sleeps 8, is on one level throughout, and has a wheelchair friendly wet room. Balebarn Lodge and Otter Cottage also work well together for groups of up to 12, as they are nearly next door to each other.
Cottage with bath
Otter Cottage at Wheatland Farm has an upstairs bathroom with over-bath shower, toilet and basin.

Named after the otter seen pilfering the pond one morning, Otter Cottage has a fenced garden and glorious views over the farm and to Dartmoor. Watch out for the resident moorhen family in the back garden and the emerald flash of a kingfisher on the perch over the pond…
Bookings for Otter Cottage include all your electricity (100 % green), beds made up, towels, and scones on arrival. And yours will be a green holiday: almost as green as Devon’s countryside – with free bikes to borrow, extensive recycling facilities etc, all of which has won numerous environmental awards.
