Rain or shine (well, you’re going to get wet anyway…) the inflatables or wake boarding at the North Devon Wake Park are great fun for kids and adults.
The Wake Park is just under 30 miles from Wheatland Farm, very close to the A39 between Bideford and Hartland. There’s a cafe for non-participants, or you could explore the sister-attraction at the Milky Way, a small theme park just next door (there are sometimes deals to get the best of both).
Take your own wetsuit or hire one, and you’ll get a buoyancy aid as part of your booking. You need to be at least 5 years old to use the Aquapark, be able to swim 50m, and be at least 1.1m tall. You can book your session online.
If you’re booking wakeboarding, you need to ring 07956009047. Note the tow is via a cable – which has to be a lot more eco friendly than being pulled around behind a speed boat! Wakeboarding sessions are tailored to your ability, and come in 15 minute chunks (or buy a package of 3).
If that’s too much fun for you, maybe try the more sedate stand up paddle boarding instead (you can have a go at that back at Wheatland Farm too, but ours aren’t quite as stable!).
Getting there without a car: OK, well you’ve already set yourself a bit of a challenge! Closest bus is the 319 from Bideford to Clovelly, so from Wheatland Farm that means changing bus in Bideford at the Quay. Doable, but it’s going to be a full day out that’s best started early. Ask us for help with timetables if you’re considering this.
Facilities for the less mobile: There’s nothing obvious on the Park’s website so we’ve asked – and will report back.
