Emerald damselflies start emerging in July and will be flying around the ponds at Wheatland Farm until about the end of August – maybe into September.
This one is quite a fresh individual, and a female. So here’s a picture from last year to show a male in all his glory. The best place to look for emeral damselflies is in the rushes surrounding the wildlife pond below Balebarn Lodge. Unlike most damselflies, these guys usually rest with their wings partially spread.
