Nuthatches nesting by the lodges

Nuthatches are nesting outside the lodges again – this pair can be watched from the window of Honeysuckle Lodge.

Nuthatches start getting noisy really early in the year, with a piercing call. Now their call has changed, sound a bit more like a woodpecker. You also hear the tap tap tapping as they mud up the entrance to their nest – in the hope of keeping predators (including woodpeckers) away.

Last time we kept close tabs on a Nuthatch nest at Wheatland Farm it was in a nest box made by guest Huw. That was back in 2016. We’ll keep an eye on this one too.
