Something is munching the yellow flag leaves at the wildlife pond in front of Balebarn Lodge, and it looks like it’s iris sawfly caterpillars, Rhadinoceraea micans.
We’ve been wondering why the birds aren’t having a field day, but apparently some species in this group can sequester toxins from the plant to deter predators. Not sure if that’s the case here, but they sure are numerous! #30DaysWild No. 18
