Weird aren’t they – these growths are a kind of trumpet lichen, Cladonia chlorophaea. This little patch is growing on a wet clay slope by the wildlife pond, in front of Balebarn Eco Lodge. If you want to know exactly where, just give us a shout and we’ll point it out to you. We’ve not spotted it at Wheatland Farm before, but apparently it’s fairly common, as lichens go. At least it’s distinctive – we’re not lichen experts so it’s difficult to really know what we’ve got!
