Thousands of starlings pay a brief visit

Starlings – one of the delights of a Devon winter! Often we see them passing south in mini flocks towards evening. Sometimes they will mass in the trees behind the orchard, sometimes in the trees behind the eco lodges. And sometimes, all of a sudden, they’ll leave again, as this video shows.

Presumably they are on their way to a main roost.  We’re not quite sure where that is at the moment. There used to be a big flock roosting at the army camp above Okehampton, but sadly the trees were cut down so they had to move on.
