You're close to excellent fishing when you stay at our Devon holiday accommodation.

Only 3 miles away is Stafford Moor fisheries, one of the best known coarse fishing sites in the West Country. Stafford Moor issues day tickets and have a number of lakes to fish. When there's a match on, we often have guests staying in our accommodation who fish at Stafford Moor during the day. The accommodation there tends to book up early - and our lodges are a lot cheaper too! Our prices range from £200 to £460 per week for one of the smaller lodges (sleeps 4-6).

About 8 miles from the cottage and lodges, in North Tawton, you'll find Spire Lakes, offering coarse fishing.

The area around Wheatland Farm offers a good choice of game fishing. Lovely wild brown trout on Dartmoor and Exmoor (with free fishing on Meldon reservoir). Salmon and sea-trout on the Taw and the Torridge, rainbow trout on some of the reservoirs - it's all out there amongst the delightful Devon scenery. Day tickets are often available for salmon and sea-trout on the nearby river Taw. The Devon School of Fly Fishing, based at the Fox and Hounds Hotel in Eggesford, offers tuition and guiding from £90 an hour up to £150 for a full day. You can stay in our accommodation and still fish the Taw through the hotel.

The season is quite long, with salmon  in season from February to mid-December if you look around. River trout are available from mid March to mid October, and private fisheries and reservoirs provide all year round angling if you're just itching to cast that fly!

And if your kids (or you) just want to 'have a go' you can fish our farm pond for free. Below is a picture of our biggest fish (probably), hooked by Fishbones (yes, his real name), in July 09. We don't think it has been caught since. You have to know a bit about fishing to catch this one in our pond, but anyone who casts a line will be able to catch something, from around age 4 up.

Remember, if you're over 12 you need an Environment Agency rod licence wherever you choose to fish - available at most post offices. Children may fish our pond only with our permission and under supervision from the parents/carers.

Fly fishing on the Taw through the Devon School of Fly Fishing in Eggesford, just 4 miles away.
