From 3 to 22 December the National Trust's Killerton House is decorated for a Victorian Christmas. Killerton is about 21 miles from your self catering accommodation.

Clovelly switches on its Christmas Lights in aid of R.N.L.I. on 4 December. Starting from the Visitor Centre, Clovelly about 3.30pm (admission is by donation to R.N.L.I. ). Christmas is a magical time at Clovelly. A local brass band leads the procession down to the harbour and accompanies Christmas carols sung with the Torridge Male Voice Choir. A hog roast, punch and mince pies follow and Father Christmas makes a surprise visit. At about 5.00pm the switch is thrown and the entire village and harbour are lit up. It's a fantastic sight and there is a grand finale of fireworks to finish off. Clovelly is about 30 miles from the cottage and lodges.

On Tue 06 December at 8.00pm catch Albert Lee & Hogan's Heroes at the Plough. Celebrating 50 years in music, double Grammy award winner Albert Lee is back with his multitalented band Hogan's Heroes (Gerry Hogan. Peter Baron, Brian Hodgson and Gavin Povey) with whom he completed a successful tour of the USA in the summer of 2010, the highlight being in Chicago when they were joined on stage by Vince Gill, Ricky Scaggs, James Burton and Bobby Cochran. Albert is without a doubt one of the worlds finest guitar-players. "above all he is a truly wonderful singer, soulful and strong" Eric Clapton. Tickets £18.00. On Fri 09 December at 8.00pm  Martin Harley will be playing at the Plough. Fresh from the Virgin Music festival in Barbados internationally acclaimed slide guitar player and songwriter Martin Harley is heading to Torrington. His 'British Americana' sound is influenced by Delta Blues and Gypsy swing and has been enjoyed from the Royal Albert Hall to the far reaches of the globe. Performances at Europe's biggest festivals, including Glastonbury, have cemented his popularity within the acoustic roots scene. Playing both regular guitar and acoustic weissenborn (a traditional Hawaiian style slide guitar played across the lap) you can expect to hear songs from all four studio albums. Tickets £10.00.

On 9 December Chulmleigh rural cinema is showing Bridesmaids at 7.30 pm. Chulmleigh is about 5 miles from the cottage and lodges.

A 1930s Christmas starts at Castle Drogo on 10 and 11 December. See parts of the Castle traditionally decorated and visit Father Christmas in his fantastic grotto. Normal admission charges plus £2 for child visit to grotto. Castle Drogo is 17 miles from your self catering accommodation.

On 11 December the National Trust are putting on a Children's Crafts for Christmas Presents drop in workshop at Arlington Court, Barnstaple from 11.00am - 3.00pm. Normal admission charges apply plus £1 for each child to take part. No Booking Required. Join in, make gifts, decorations and more on a Christmas of Narnia theme. This event is suitable for children under 11 years. Arlington Court is about 27 miles from the cottage and lodges and also hosts the national carriage collection.

On 11 December there's a Christmas Gift Fair at Eggesford Garden Centre (about 4 miles from the cottage and lodges) from 11.00am - 4.00pm. Find an unusual or unique Christmas gift at more than 25 stalls. Amongst the exhibitors you will find hand-made semi-precious jewellery, original paintings and prints, hand-knitted goods, delicious confectionery and more besides. Along with Christmas decorations and novelties the fair should have a real festive feel.

Also on 11 December there's a Christmas Fatstock Show at the Pannier Market, South Molton from 10.00am - 4.00pm. Sheep, Horses, Pigs, Ponies and Alpacas will be on show in the Pannier Market. Also a packed programme of events on stage from 10.30am - 3.00pm, focusing on sheep production and the origins of wool. The children of Brayford school will be singing carols and there will be stalls offering wreaths and decorations, traditional fare, local cider and wines to taste and buy and craft-based presents. South Molton is about 15 miles from your self catering accommodation.

Tue 13 December at 1.00pm & 7.30pm (and on 14 December at 10.00am and 1:00pm) Seabright Productions presents the Olivier Award nominated Potted Panto. They're back at The Plough! CBBC's Dan and Jeff present their most extravagant show yet. The creators of Potted Potter and Potted Pirates perform seven classic pantomimes in just eighty minutes. Following a season in the West End, this show won a nomination as Best Entertainment in the Olivier Awards. From 16 to 23 December the National Trust's Killerton House has an exhibition of recycled textiles and items made from them - for you to admire or buy! Killerton is about 21 miles from the cottage and lodges. Exhibition is from 2-4pm.

On 17 December there's a Christmas Concert put on by South Molton Circuit Choir at Victory Hall, North Molton at 7.30pm. North Molton is about 16 miles from your self catering accommodation.

There's a farmers' market and local produce sale at the National Trust's Killerton House on 17 December from 10.30. Killerton is about 21 miles from our Devon farm.

On Thu 22 December at 8.00pm catch Ruby Darnell & The Lazy Rancheros at the Plough in Torrington. A rootin tootin band from the West Country, Ruby Darnell and The Lazy Rancheros play Western swing and Tex Mex with a hint of Cajun spice. This seven piece band has fiddles, accordion, doghouse bass, steel guitar, saxophone, piano, drums, guitar, mandolin and 6 vocalists - an authentic sound big enough to lift the roof off. You'll recognise the musicians from other bands - Paul, Ruby, Jim and Franky from The Atlantics rock n roll band, Tom the bass player with Johnny Cash tribute band Ring of Fire and fiddlers Nick Wyke and Becki Driscoll who work with Wren Music and lead The Plough's North Devon Folk Orchestra. Expect a mixture of classic songs and tunes plus the band's own original material in the same vein. Get ready for a night of hoe down party music guaranteed to get the house rockin. On Fri 23 December at 8.00pm the Planet of Sound Christmas Party is at the Plough. Celebrate the festive season with a very merry Christmas Party! Expect an eclectic mix of music with Bristol based ska/hip hop band The Sage and Starr Experiment, acoustic singer songwriters Rosie Jones and Samir Arslanagic and much more to be confirmed! Come and celebrate the holidays with bands, DJ's, festive decor and drinks and maybe even a Christmas jingle or two! Standing Gig. Tickets £8.00 on the door. £6.00 in advance.

On Christmas Eve the Hatherleigh Silver Band play at the carol service in Hatherleigh square at 7pm followed by carols around the town. Hatherleigh is about 8 miles from the cottage and lodges.

Closer to hand Chulmleigh have carols by the tree in Fore Street on 24 December at 18.30. Chulmleigh is about 5 miles from our Devon farm.

You can skate at the National Trust's Knightshayes Court from 26 December to 1 January. Book a half hour slot on the synthetic rink. Ad £4 ch £3.5 - pay when you book on 01884 254665. Knightshayes Court is about 25 miles from the cottage and lodges.

Castle Drogo opens its grounds and cafe again on 27 December  (until 1 Jan) for you to 'wind down and warm up'. Relax after Christmas with a walk in the fresh air of the Drogo Gardens and Teign Valley. Recharge your batteries in the café. Make a New Year's resolution and add it to the resolution tree. Children can also follow a trail around the gardens and grounds to discover the extreme activities some people take part in order to 'Wind Down and Warm Up'. Normal admission charges, £1.50 for children's trail.
