The Dartmoor National Parks Authority organise guided walks - here are some close to our self-catering accommodation during May 2011. Please note, you can't take your dog on these walks.
On Sunday 15 May a Dartmoor Guided Walk leaves Haytor, Lower Car Park at 10:30. This 3hr walk explores the range of Archaeology to be found around this well known Dartmoor Tor. Guide D Jenkin Distance 5m/8km. Turn up in good time and pay the guide £5.50. Haytor lower car park is below the rocks on the B3387 Widecombe-Bovey Tracey road, about 30 miles away from your Devon self catering accommodation.
On Saturday 21 May a 4hr Dartmoor Guided Walk leaves Postbridge at 10:00. Celebrate the National Park's 60th Anniversary on this walk. It's a taste of those aspects of Dartmoor that make it a very special place - from pre history to plants. Guide G Seale. Turn up in good time and pay the guide £7. Meet at the Postbridge information centre on the B3212 (you can't miss it). Postbridge is about 28 miles from your holiday accommodation.
On Sunday 22 May a 2.5hr Dartmoor Guided Walk leaves Postbridge at 10:30. In search of the Dartmoor Pony - Join the Dartmoor Pony Heritage Trust (DPHT) to discover more about this icon of the National Park as it celebrates its 60th Anniversary. Discover more about how the Dartmoor Pony has played a key role in the development of the Dartmoor landscape you see today and how it continues to influence its environment by being used for conservation grazing not only on Dartmoor but in other parts of the country. On Sunday 29 May a 5hr Dartmoor Guided Walk leaves Shapley Common at 10:30. Explore Grimspound Bronze Age Settlement and Hameldown. Guide R Ware. Shapely common meeting point is at SX 698 834 - a car park on north side of B3212 between Moretonhampstead and Warren House Inn. It's about 22 miles from your self catering accommodation.
On 8 May a 6hr Dartmoor Guided Walk sets out from Okehampton Moor at 10:00. Cranmere Pool or Bust - a challenging walk to probably the most famous letterbox on Dartmoor and one of only two named ones. Please note this walk may take longer than 6 hours and walkers need to be fit and well equipped. Guide J Whiting. Costs £9. Turn up in good time and pay the guide. The walk starts at Okehampton moor (SX 596 922). Follow signs for the youth hostel / army camp. Continue past the camp and cross a bridge at a brook. Park at top of the hill on the right at a fork. It's about 13 miles from your self catering cottage or lodge.
