The Dartmoor National Parks Authority organise guided walks - here are some close to our self-catering accommodation during March 2011. Please note, you can't take your dog on these walks.
On Saturday 12 March join a Dartmoor Guided Walk leaving from Haytor, Lower car park at 10:30. This is a 2.5hr walk along the Tramway that explores the area around this iconic Devon landmark. Guide T Soby 01837 53575 Distance 4m/6.4km. Suitable for most moderately fit walkers. Average route and pace, possibly with some steep sections. Turn up in good time and pay the guide £5. Haytor lower car park is below the rocks on the B3387 Widecombe-Bovey Tracey road. (and about 30 miles away from the cottage and lodges).
On 17 March at 10:30 join a 3hr Dartmoor Guided Walk for women setting off from Pork Hill. This is a walk for women led by a female guide (Liz Miall 01822 855070). Suitable for most moderately fit walkers. Average route and pace, possibly with some steep sections. Turn up in good time and pay the guide £5. Meet at Pork Hill (SX 530 751) in the large car park on south side of B3357 between Tavistock and Merrivale. That's about 30 miles from the cottage and lodges.
On Saturday 26 March join a 4hr Dartmoor Guided Walk leaving Belstone at 10:00. This 8m/12.8km walk will be an suitable for those wanting to stride out and enjoy the moor at a good pace. Expect steep sections and go well equipped. Guide is Paul Rendell 01837 54727. Costs £6.50. Turn up in good time and pay the guide. Meet in the car park opposite Belstone village hall. Belstone is about 14 miles from the cottage and lodges.
On 30 March join a 4hr Dartmoor Guided Walk leaving King's Oven at 10:00. Moor to Meadow - this walk is a mixture of open moorland, Tors, old farms and a visit to Grimspound Bronze age settlement. Guide D Payne 07785 720064 Distance 7.4m/12km. Costs £6.50. Suitable for most moderately fit walkers. Turn up in good time and pay the guide. Meet at King's Oven SX 675 810, 100m NE of the Warren House Inn on the B3212 Postbridge-Moretonhampstead road (you can't miss the inn). It's about 26 miles from your self catering accommodation.
On 1 March join a Dartmoor Guided Walk leaving Two Bridges at 10:00. On this 3hr walk discover the Tinners' Parliament rocks (and the story of the Stannary Parliament that met there) and the eerie Wistman's Wood. Guide S Dell 07845 176870 Distance 4m/6km Suitable for most moderately fit walkers. Average route and pace, possibly with some steep sections. Turn up in good time and pay the guide £5.
