The Dartmoor National Parks Authority organise guided walks - here are some close to our self-catering accommodation during July 2011. Please note, unfortunately you can't take your dog on these walks.
On 8 July a 2.5hr Dartmoor Guided Walk leaves Bellever at 10:00. This is a pilates body walk: brisk walking with a difference - core stability, good posture and stretching, to promote fitness, flexibility and well-being. Cost £5.50. Includes tuition with Pilates instructor. Book on 01822 618660 or 07976 289260. Meet in the Forestry Commission car park near Bellever. Turn off the B3212 Mortonhampstead to Two Bridges road towards Bellever just after Postbridge. It's about a mile down this road (and about 30 from your lodge or cottage).
On Saturday 9 July a 3hr Dartmoor Guided Walk sets off from Haytor, Lower car park at 10:30. Enjoy the moorland scenery as it is carpeted in the purple and yellow flowers of the gorse and heather and with it the butterflies, insects and the mysterious dodder! Guide P Page. Costs £5.50 Turn up in good time and pay the guide. Haytor lower car park is below the rocks on the B3387 Widecombe-Bovey Tracey road. That's about 30 miles away from your self catering accommodation.
On 23 July two Dartmoor Guided Walks leave Postbridge: at 10:30 and at 14:00. These 2.5hr walks are part of the Festival of British Archaeology and are led by Dartmoor National Park Authority Archaeologists. You'll visit some of the many prehistoric sites within Bellever Forest and out on the Moor, including a visit to a very recent excavation of a prehistoric round house. And there's a Bronze Age Exhibition at the Postbridge Information Centre. Postbridge is about 28 miles from your self catering accommodation. Costs £5.50

On 28 July at 11:00 there's a chance to explore from Taw to Tor on a Dartmoor Guided Walk. Join Dartmoor National Park Education Officer Willem Montagne for this exploration of the River Taw area - take a picnic lunch. Lasts 3hr, costs £5.50, meet in the car park opposite Belstone village hall. Belstone is about 14 miles from your holiday accommodation.

On Sunday 31 July a Dartmoor Guided Walk leaves Lydford High Down at 10:30. This 4hr walk is all about Widgery's Dartmoor. Enjoy the landscapes which inspired one of Dartmoor's most well know artists, includes a stop at Black Rock for a poem. Guide T Soby Distance 7m/11km. Turn up in good time and pay the guide £7. Take the A386 Okehampton to Plymouth road. Opposite the turning for Lydford and just before the Dartmoor Inn there's a track - take that to the car park where you'll meet. Lydford is about 20 miles from the cottage and lodges.
