Walking holidays in Devon

The Dartmoor National Park Authority organise guided walks and activities - there's not many this month on the right side of Dartmoor for our self-catering accommodation, but here are a few  during April 2011. Please note, you can't take your dog on these walks.


On 14 April there's a 2 hour Children's Dartmoor Discovery Trail starting from Haytor, Lower Car Park at 10:30. Follow the map and clues to claim your prize. Haytor lower car park is below the rocks on the B3387 Widecombe-Bovey Tracey road. That's about 30 miles away from the cottage and lodges. Costs £3.50 per child, accompanying adult free.


On Saturday 16 April take a 1.5hr 'Good for You' Dartmoor Guided Stroll, setting off from Haytor, Lower Car Park at 10:30. This will be a  gentle informative walk around the Haytor area. Guide J Hanson. Turn up in good time and pay the guide £3.50.

On 19 April there's a 2 hour activity organised at Bellever (14:00). Entitled Wellies, Water and Wildlife, you'll discover more about the creepy crawlies to be found in Dartmoor's rivers and streams. Meet in the Forestry Commission car park near Bellever. Turn off the B3212 Mortonhampstead to Two Bridges road towards Bellever just after Postbridge.  It's about a mile down this road (and about 28 from the cottage and lodges). Costs £3.50 per child, accompanying adult free.

On Saturday 30 April a 3 hour Dartmoor Guided Walk sets off from Haytor, Lower Car Park at 10:30. This Wildlife In Spring walk may offer the opportunity to spot the elusive Cuckoo.  Please take binoculars and do not wear brightly coloured clothing. Guide P Page. Haytor lower car park is below the rocks on the B3387 Widecombe-Bovey Tracey road, 30 miles from our Devon farm. Costs £5.50
