How to find Wheatland Farm Eco Lodges and Cottage

Wheatland Farm is in North Devon (just – actually we’re pretty much in the middle of rural Devon, between Dartmoor and Exmoor). We are just outside the Saxon village of Winkleigh, credited in 2011 with being the best place in England to bring up children!

When you book, we’ll send you detailed directions from the M5 at Tiverton (and via Eggesford), and from the A30 East and West (via Widdon Down and North Tawton).

Finding Wheatland Farm Eco Lodges: the last few miles…

From Winkleigh

To find us take the A3124 north from Winkleigh and after passing the recreation ground on your right you will come to a sharp left hand corner. You need to turn off, right, at the corner. Take care on the bend!

Follow the road round to the right (signed to Chulmleigh). After about half a mile there’s Fiona’s farm shop on your left. You’ll see a farm with a medium-sized wind turbine on your left, and our small wind turbine should soon come into view on the right (though it is cunningly hidden behind a big tree until you’re quite close). About half a mile after the farm shop you’ll come across a layby on the right. Drive down the track (not through the wooden to the house on the road gates). Drive past our neighbour’s bungalow and a car park for the lodges. For Beech, Honeysuckle and Nuthatch lodges, carry on (ignoring the sign for Otter Cottage and Balebarn Eco Lodge) until you get to a dead end and a turning area. Ours is the white farm house. Just down the steps is our front door, where you can pick up the keys. If you’re likely to find the steps tricky please ring us and we’ll come out and meet you. For Otter Cottage and Balebarn Eco Lodge please take the right hand fork in the driveway and come down to the old farmyard. Come to the back door in the conservatory on the side of the house. Why’s it different? Just to avoid a hugely tight turn when you go to your accommodation!

From the A377

This is the ‘back lane’ route. To find Wheatland Farm Eco Lodges from the A377 turn off at Eggesford station (go across the tracks). Take the first right up a hill and through plantation forestry. At the top of the hill, follow the road sharp left round a bend and continue until you reach houses. Turn right here and go through the village of Wembworthy. Just as you leave the houses turn right again, down a hill and up the other side on a narrow lane. The road forks at a thatched farmhouse called Lane End. Take the left. When you come to a T junction (Tinkers Post) turn left again. Continue until you see a layby on your left with the sign for Wheatland Farm in the hedge.
