And now the other hive too...
Now I'm not making this up. Come Monday morning and we were again snatching a coffee in the sunshine. We were even joking about how Tony would be along any mo to tease us about the work not getting done. And then, like last Friday, the furious buzzing... The other hive was swarming too.
Well, at least we'd been practising. No need for saucepan lids this time, the bees settled quickly (three cheers for coffee - we could so easily have missed it). A slightly easier swarm to collect, though it did end up costing the tree a branch.
And Ian had to spend another day making an emergency brood box.
This time he hived the bees the same day, in the evening - last time they overnighted in the barn but it's not that cool in there and a good few got out too.
So this was my chance for a photo of the hiving process and the procession of bees marching to their new home!
