Wheatland Farm Lodges and Cottages
On the wing

The last few weeks have been pretty wet here, as elsewhere in the country, but the weather hasn't grounded the wildlife. Four year old George found this fearsome looking golden ringed dragonfly resting by a muddy puddle. It didn't mind being coaxed onto a twig for a photo. George was rightly proud of his find!
An evening walk through sunlight grasses found me great close-up views of damselflies. This one, I think, is a blue-tailed damselfly, Ischnura elegans. I'm not an expert, but it's blackish body with one striking sky-blue abdominal segment is pretty distinctive.

And it's not just me enjoying the flowers either - the big flat flowers of hogweed are covered with colourful soldier beetles.
