Yesterday, 29th March, I saw the first swallow of the year. What an exhilarating surprise! It was flying fast towards the barns at Gosse Farm, Hollocombe, not more than a couple of miles from here.
House martins I might have expected, but swallows - I hadn't even advertised the annual 'extra slice of cake for whoever sees the first swallow' competition. Now I'm in a quandary...
This isn't this year's picture - I haven't seen any here yet. But I'll be watching now for arrivals to our own barns. Then I think we can all have cake to celebrate the comming summer.
