Wheatland Farm Lodges and Cottages
Blackberry season is here...
So far, September seems to be turning into the lovely summer we almost had. It's not too hot to be out and about, the moor is still awash with colour and late butterflies. The swallows haven't gone yet - probably feeding themselves up on the insects that are making Popehouse Moor literally hum with life. The badger paths are clear through the long grass in the big field, and the tawny owls have started proclaiming their territories loudly after dark.
And as for the blackberries. I know it's not hard core wildlife, but they are fabulous at the moment. One of my great pleasures is to go for a walk with 9 month old Euan in the back pack, and pass up juicy berries, feel him take them delicately from my fingertips, and listen for the appreciative slurps. And this happy blackberry face is the result, and there's still plenty left for the dormice and autumn birds.
