Good news - the bees seem to be recovering. Local bee keeper Rashid came again to look through the hive with Ian, and although they didn't spot the queen there was brood there - and far to many bees for the colony to have been without a queen for all this time. So the queen cell we were given must have hatched out, the virgin queen flown, been mated and returned. I don't think we'll be getting more than just a taste of honey this year - they'll need to build up their stocks, but at least the colony is alive and kicking.
