We've put the cows back into Popehouse Moor, now we've had our visit from the botanists.
Because the grazing wasn't quite what we wanted last summer it's important to make sure it's grazed this year. And the orchids have finished flowering now.
So nine young cows have gone through to the first, (highest)section of the nature reserve. Once they've eaten that we'll move them along...
I doubt it will take them long to chomp through that sea of luscious green (it doesn't usually)and hopefully they'll kick up and disturb some of the thatch that's hidden from view now but still remained from last year.
We had to drive them in there, and initially they weren't keen, but then they set to, testing the bramble, taking the odd bite of willow, and checking out the boundaries. I hope they're all still there tomorrow!
